Tournament Preview
The new-normal on the PGA Tour continues, with the Travelers Championship place taking place in Connecticut. Having been one of the most prominent events on the tour since its inception in 1952, the Travelers Championship once again possesses a stellar field. Greg Norman, Bubba Watson, and Phil Mickelson are just three on a long list of impressing winning alumni at TPC River Highlands and with over $7 million on offer within the prize pot – there is plenty to play for in Connecticut this week.
Betting Preview
Outright Winner
The PGA Tour has been back in action for 3 weeks and players look to be finding their rhythm, which should set up an excellent week of golf:
World number one Rory McIlory hasn’t really been in contention at either event since the PGA Tour restart, but he is hitting the ball a long way and could feature heavily here.
Bryson DeChambeau has gained around 20kg in muscle mass during lock down and is hitting the ball incredible distances – making him a leading candidate in every event he plays.
World number 4 Justin Thomas has picked up where he left off on the PGA Tour, with two consecutive top 10 finishes and he looks sure to be in contention once again this week.
Fresh of his win at the RBC Heritage last time out, Webb Simpson continues to perform regularly on the PGA Tour, and few would bet against him contending all the way this week in Connecticut.
Few players have as impressive a record as Bubba Watson at the Travelers Championship, with the big hitting lefty having won the event on 3 previous occasions and he is well priced here.
1st Round Leader
With players still trying to find momentum within their respective seasons, getting off to a fast start could be hugely important here in Connecticut:
2009 runner up Ryan Moore hasn’t been able to demonstrate any solid form since returning to action but he is a notoriously quick starter and the course at TPC River Highlands should suit him.
World number 16 Tony Finau has managed 3 top 10 finishes this season and despite only having registered one tournament win in his PGA Tour career, he is a ruthless competitor.
2019 US Open champion Gary Woodland looked good in finishing 9th at the Charles Schwab Challenge earlier this month and he could be another candidate to get off to a flyer.
Top 10 Finish
With so many good players assembled here in Connecticut, getting into the winning enclosure could be tough but there are plenty of candidates to finish in the top 10 come Sunday:
Spaniard Jon Rahm has been slow getting back into his rhythm since the season restart but his excellent finish at the RBC Heritage last week, suggested he is finding form once more.
Justin Rose flew out of the blocks at the Charles Schwab Challenge and he looks to have a firm hold on his putting at the moment, which is historically the most inconsistent part of his game.
Australian Marc Leishman won this event back in 2012 and he has looked in decent form since returning to action following the enforced mid-season break.
