We have reached the quarter-final stage of the 2024-25 UEFA Europa League. Here are the previews and BetXchange odds for all four matches this week.
Bodo/Glimt VS Lazio
Thursday, 10 April – Aspmyra Stadium, Bodo (Norway)
Bodo/Glimt is the surprise package of the Europa League this season. They finished ninth in the group stage, just one spot outside the places that automatically qualified for the Round of 16.
The Norweigan minnows reached this stage of a major European comp for just the second with wins over FC Twente in the playoff round and an impressive 4-2 aggregate win over Olympiacos in the Round of 16.
Lazio is a far more decorated club in European competition and is the favorite to qualify after two legs. They topped the group stage table with six wins, one loss, and one draw before narrowly scraping past Viktpria Pizen in the Round of 16.
Bodo/Glimt has scored the most goals in the Europa League this season and faces a Lazio team in mediocre form. Expect goals, with Bodo/Glimt doing enough to take this to Rome all square after a 1-1 or 2-2 draw.
Tottenham Hotspur VS Eintracht Frankfurt
Thursday, 10 April – Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London (England)
Spurs have only the Europa League left to play for this season. Manager Ange Postecoglu has admitted that fans expect him to get sacked even if he wins the competition, with his team languishing in 14th place in the Premier League.
Eintract Frankfurt has had a much more successful domestic campaign. While winning this trophy is the only way Spurs can backdoor their way into the Champions League next season, Die Adler sit third in the Bundesliga and are in the thick of the fight for a Champions League spot through domestic league position.
The North London side was abject in their Round of 16 first-leg tie at AZ. A 3-1 home win followed the 1-0 away defeat to see them reach this stage. The Germans also faced Dutch opposition, beating Ajaz convincingly 6-2 on aggregate with wins in both legs of their tie.
Losing Omar Marmoush to Manchester City in January has been a blow for Die Adler. I see Spurs winning this 2-1.
Rangers VS Athletic Bilbao
Thursday, 10 April – Ibrox Stadium, Glasgow (Scotland)
The most impressive single leg of the Round of 16 saw Rangers walk into the cauldren of Istanbul and beat Fenerbache 3-1 on their own turf.
It has been a strange season for the Glasgow club. Their defeat at the hands of Hibs on Saturday at Ibrox was their fifth home loss on the bounce, the first time that has happened in the club’s 153-year history.
They face a significant task here, with Athletic Bilbao finishing second in the group stage on goal difference behind Lazio. The visitors are also fourth in the highly competitive La Liga and have only conceded 24 times in 30 games in the domestic league this season.
It is hard to back a team that has lost to St. Mirren, Motherwell, and Queen’s Park at home over the last two months. Take Los Leones to quiet Ibrox with a 3-1 win.
Lyon VS Manchester United
Thursday, 10 April – Parc Olympique Lyonnais, Decines (France)
For Manchester United, read the write-up on the Spurs above.
The English giants have had a dismal campaign domestically. They sit 13th in the league, and their best players are either injured (Ahmad Diallo) or playing well on loan elsewhere (Marcus Rashford). Their 0-0 Manchester derby match against City at the weekend lacked any flair, drama, or grit—basically, just like their season.
Lyon is fifth in Ligue 1, miles behind runaway leaders PSG, but just four points behind Marseile in second. They came into this game after a 2-1 win over Lille at the weekend.
Expect this to be cagey. A draw seems like a decent bet, with United playing defensively to take it back to Old Trafford all square.
