Tournament Preview
The PGA Tour rolls into Illinois with a stellar field assembled for the John Deere Classic. Whilst many of the biggest names in the game will have one eye on the British Open starting next week, the John Deere Classic has become a staple on the tour at this time of the year and many American and Rest of the World players look to have strong prospects here. The event has been held at TPC Deere Run since 2000 and with winning alumni such as Steve Stricker, Jordan Spieth and Vijay Singh it certainly has a rich heritage as an event on the PGA Tour.

Outright Winner
With such a high quality field in action in Illinois, picking an outright winner looks to be no easy task but here are our top 5 selections with BetXChange:-
The young Chilean has continued to impress on the PGA Tour and with two top 5 finishes from his last 3 starts, he looks to be in decent form here.
It has been a tough season overall for the American who splits his time across the PGA and European tours but his showing at the 3M Open last time out (tied 15th) is certainly cause for optimism.
Ryan Moore is another player that has struggled for form in 2019 but he triumphed at this event back in 2016 and he has a game that will suit the testing conditions in Illinois.
Palmer is currently sat at number 22 in the PGA Tour rankings and he has been in fine form for the past couple of seasons. He returns from injury here but looks overpriced somewhat.
Despite languishing outside the world’s top 100, Nick Watney is more than capable of producing tournament winning golf and with two top 10 finishes in recent months; he could be worth a punt.

1st Round Leader
Producing the goods over 72 holes is often the most difficult thing for any golfer to do therefore here are our first round leader picks:-
Experienced campaigner Jason Dufner will be eager to build on his strong showing at the Memorial Tournament last month and hit the ground running here in Illinois.
Scotsman Martin Laird has been plying his trade on the PGA Tour for a few seasons now and he will be eager to improve on his solitary top 10 finish this season here.
After flying out of the traps at the PGA Championships at Bethpage Black, New Zealander Danny Lee could well be the man to catch after day 1 of the action here at the John Deere Classic.

Top Five Finish
With so many quality players assembled here in Illinois, getting into the winning enclosure could be tough but there are plenty of candidates to finish in the top 6 come Sunday:-
2012 John Deere Classic champion Zach Johnson has been off the tour for a month due to injury but should be back fit and firing here before the British Open.
The 2009 US Open champion finished 7th at the 3M Open last time out and sits pretty in the top 40 of the PGA Tour rankings for the season and could well go deep here.
Former world number one Luke Donald continues to strive for full fitness following a difficult few seasons through injury but despite not much time on the course of late, he looks to have a game well suited to conditions in Illinois.
