Three sides on the cusp of breaking into the elite of the ICC nations face off in an eagerly anticipated T20 tri-series in Bangladesh. The hosts performed admirably in the 50 over world cup and they will be willed on by passionate home support in Bangladesh. Afghanistan also produced some solid performances in England whilst Zimbabwe continue to chase a return to the top table of world cricket. With all three sides due to face off twice before the series final, there promises to be plenty of twists and turns as the series unfolds.

Bangladesh have struggled somewhat since their impressive showing at the 2019 World Cup in England, suffering a humbling 3-0 series defeat to Sri Lanka before being thrashed by Afghanistan in a one-off test match. A return to T20 cricket however will be welcomed, with the likes of Shakib al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal proven performers at international level, they will be confident going into this series. In addition, the pitches in Dhaka and Chittagong should assist the Bangladeshi spinners which will also give them a significant advantage.
For Afghanistan, they will see this competition as a real opportunity to climb the ICC rankings. They failed to win a game at the 50-over World Cup in England but demonstrated some real quality at times within their squad. T20 cricket has enabled them to yield some of their best results historically and they will see both Bangladesh and Zimbabwe as beatable sides. Rashid Khan will once again be the figurehead of the bowling attack and they could go all the way here.
Zimbabwe will start the series as the underdogs, particularly with the pitches in Bangladesh sure to be very spin bowling friendly. The ICC have currently placed Zimbabwe under suspension but the Bangladesh Cricket Board have allowed them to play in this series and they will be eager to show the world what they can do. They have lost 12 of their last 14 T20 matches and are struggling to find a balance within their squad but their 2 victories within the rotten sequence have actually been against Bangladesh.
