Tournament Preview
The European Tour reaches its climax in Dubai with the season ending event at the DP World Tour Championship. With the prestige of finishing the year at the top of the money list on the line, there is a huge amount to play for at the Jumeriah Golf Estates. Bernd Wiesberger is the money list leader going into the final week following his sparkling summer but he has the likes of Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood and Jon Rahm hot on his heels this week. With a $3 million prize pot on offer for the winner, it is one of the most lucrative prizes in golf and it promises to be an enthralling finish to the season.
Betting Preview
Outright Winner
All of the biggest names on the European Tour are descending on Dubai this week in what promises to be a hotly contested four days of golf:-
Two time winner of the event Rory McIlroy comes into the final tournament of the season well in contention and following his clutch win at the FedEx Cup earlier in the year, he looks to have the credentials in Dubai this week.
Spaniard Jon Rahm has enjoyed a superb season on both the European and PGA Tours with a major title now the only real thing missing from his CV. He should go well in Dubai this week too.
Having climbed up to 2nd on the European Tour money list following his win in South Africa last week, Tommy Fleetwood is the form man coming into this event in Dubai and a win here would see him top the money list this season.
Fiery Englishman Tyrrell Hatton picked up an important win in Turkey a fortnight ago, in the first event of the season ending tri-series and he could be a shrewd outside pick this week.
South African Louis Oosthuizen was well in contention in South Africa last weekend before fading on the final day and he will be keen to ensure he lasts the distance in Dubai this week.
1st Round Leader
Producing the goods over 72 holes is often the most difficult thing for any golfer to do therefore here are our first round leader picks:-
Emerging Scot Robert Macintyre has been one of the standout performers on the European Tour this season. He plays with no fear and he’ll be relishing the chance to get involved in the Race to Dubai.
South African Erik van Rooyen has been a consistent performer all season and he tends to play his best golf in gluts and he could get off to a flyer here in the favourable Dubai conditions.
Swede Marcus Kinhult was pipped at the post by Tommy Fleetwood last weekend in a play-off but he played some sensational golf and he looks to be in very good form currently.
Top Five Finish
With so many quality players assembled here in Dubai, getting into the winning enclosure could be tough but there are plenty of candidates to finish in the top 5 come Sunday:-
Patrick Reed spends his time across both tours and is a dangerous player in any event he plays and he’ll be looking to build on his top 10 finish at the Turkish Airlines Open last time out.
Austrian Bernd Wiesberger currently sits top of the European Tour money list following wins in Demark, Scotland and Italy this season and he will be one of the front runners once more in Dubai this week.
2019 Open Champion Shane Lowry has enjoyed the best season of his career, he sits fourth on the European Tour money list and a good week here will see him in contention to win the Race to Dubai.
