England Looking For Answers
It hasn’t been the most straightforward period on the field for England in recent years in the ODI format. The nation crashed out in the group stage at the 2023 ODI World Cup last after winning just three times in nine matches.
That disappointing tournament hasn’t sparked much of a response in the format. England were last in ODI action against the West Indies in December. However, they were beaten in two of the three matches, which included a disappointing four-wicket loss in the deciding clash on December 9,
Australia In Ascendency
Australia have been the dominant force in the ODI format across recent years, which includes landing World Cup success in India last year. The Aussies beat the hosts in the final after hitting the required 241 runs in just 43 overs.
Their dominance in the format was clear to see in the knockout stages, also easing past South Africa in the semi-final stage. Australia will be very confident of maintaining their excellent record against England, beginning next week, and they were handsome winners at the 2023 World Cup by a 33-run margin in November.
ODI Head to Head
Australia holds the advantage in previous ODI clashes between the nations, winning on 88 occasions compared to the 63 wins recorded by England.
The Aussie domination in the ODI format against their hosts has been evident in recent clashes, winning each of the last five. England’s last ODI win over Australia was achieved by a 24-run margin in September 2020.
England vs Australia ODI Prediction
England’s recent form would be a major concern ahead of this five-match ODI test against Australia. The Aussies may be the tourists for this clash, but confidence would have already been gained following their opening match success in the T20 format on Wednesday. Further Aussie success could be on the horizon on English soil this summer.
