The Formula 1 action heads back to Europe this weekend, as the iconic Silverstone circuit hosts the British Grand Prix. It has been a difficult week for F1 following Nelson Piquet’s racist remarks aimed at Lewis Hamilton. However, the attention will turn back to the track this Sunday, as Max Verstappen looks to extend his championship lead with a victory.

British Grand Prix Odds

There is a clear favourite in the BetXchange betting markets for the British Grand Prix this weekend, as Max Verstappen is priced up at 11/10. His most likely rival for the Drivers’ Championship, Charles Leclerc, is a 22/10 chance, with Lewis Hamilton available at 9/1. Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez is 10/1, while Carlos Sainz and George Russell are both 12/1 chances to win at Silverstone this weekend.

Event Details & Records

The British Grand Prix is one of the most historic races on the Formula 1 calendar, and was first held way back in 1926. It has been staged at Silverstone since 2011, and is the oldest race on the F1 calendar. Drivers will complete 306.198km in total during the race, which is made up of 52 laps. In total, there are 18 corners that drivers need to navigate, with two DRS detection zones, one in sector one and the other in second two.

Lewis Hamilton is the most successful driver in the history of the British Grand Prix, as his victory last year was an eighth success. Ferrari is the most successful constructor, having picked up 18 wins throughout the race’s history. Last year’s race was one of the most dramatic, as title rivals Hamilton and Verstappen collided on the first lap, which sent the Dutchman spiralling into the barriers.

Leading Contenders

The title race is looking more like a procession at present, as Verstappen is extending his advantage at the top of the standings with every passing week. However, all is not well at Red Bull coming into this weekend, with off-track issues threatening to overshadow their efforts on track. Verstappen’s allegiance to Piquet has been well-documented over the past seven days, as the Dutchman is dating the daughter of the former world champion. However, there is little doubt surrounding Red Bull’s dominance on track, as they have won the previous six races. Verstappen will be looking for a seventh win in 2022 this weekend.

Charles Leclerc will be hoping to get back on top of the podium this weekend, as the Ferrari driver hasn’t tasted success since the third race of the campaign in Australia. This is certainly a track that could bring the best out of the Ferrari this weekend, and should they not have any self-sabotaging issues throughout the race at Silverstone, they should be the fastest car out there.

Mercedes is taking solid steps in the right direction, as they had two drivers in the top four in Canada last time out. There are certainly still issues, as they lack the speed of the Red Bull and Ferrari, and will likely be hoping for issues with one of their rivals to get a podium finish. However, they certainly have the reliability, which can’t be said of their two rivals for the Constructors’ Championship.

British Grand Prix Prediction

This could be the weekend when the title race is back on, as we expect Silverstone to favour the Ferraris. Charles Leclerc is the pick to win the race, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see Lewis Hamilton standing on the podium at the end of a difficult week.
