The second weekend of Ligue 1 games takes place this week, and one of the main games that will be played will come on Friday. Lille got their 2022-23 campaign off to a winning start on matchday one, while Nantes will be looking to build on their strong 2021-22 campaign with a first win of the season in their first home game at Beaujoire Stadium.
Nantes vs Lille Latest Betting
The odds certainly expect a very close match on Friday evening, as Lille are the narrow favourites to pick up maximum points at 16/10. Meanwhile, Nantes are slightly bigger at the current prices, as they are an 18/10 chance to open their account for the new season. The draw is currently a 23/10 chance.
The over and under betting markets could also value, with over 2.5 goals currently a 1/1 chance, while under 2.5 goals is 8/10. Jonathan David is the favourite to open the scoring, with the Lille forward currently a 6/1 chance in the betting with BetXchange.
Form Heading Into Fixture
Lille and Nantes had contrasting fortunes on the opening weekend of the season, with only the visitors this weekend picking up maximum points on the opening weekend. Last season wasn’t the campaign that Lille would have been hoping for, as they went into the 2021-22 season as the reigning champions. However, they could only finish the season down in tenth, as they conceded 48 goals.
The new campaign couldn’t have gotten off to a better start for Lille, as they thumped newly promoted Auxerre 4-1 at home on Sunday afternoon. Jonathan David continued to show why he is one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe, as the forward scored twice in the opening half. Benjamin Andre opened the scoring for the home side after just a minute, while the scoring was completed by Akim Zadadka in the 64th minute.
Nantes finished a place higher than Lille in the Ligue 1 standings last season, and their campaign also ended on a high note as they won the domestic cup competition in France. Scoring was a big part of their game last term, as they hit the back of the net on 55 occasions, which made them the eighth highest scorer in France’s top-flight.
However, that goalscoring quality appears to have evaded them over the early weeks of the domestic season, as they have failed to score in both games that they have played, including their 4-0 loss against PSG in the Trophee des Champions. It was a disappointing start to the Ligue 1 season last weekend, as they shared a goalless draw with Angers.
Head-to-Head
Nantes has a poor recent record in this fixture, as they have won just once in 23 previous matches against Lille. Lille is also unbeaten in the previous 14 league meetings between the sides, winning on ten occasions. They won this fixture 1-0 last season.
Nantes vs Lille Prediction
The recent head-to-head record between the sides makes for grim reading for Nantes, and we struggle to see that run coming to an end. Lille started the season in good form, and a second win of the campaign could be a formality on Friday.
