Tournament Preview
The KLM Dutch Open has been a staple on the European Tour since 1972 and once again it has managed to entice an attractive field in 2019. The International Course in Amsterdam will host the event for the first time as some of the top players across Europe and further afield descend on the Dutch capital. Previous winners of the event include Seve Ballesteros, Colin Montgomerie, Lee Westwood and Darren Clarke and the competitions standing on the European Tour continues to grow every season. With a prize purse of 2 million euros, there is plenty to play for on the European Tour Money List too with attention beginning to turn towards next year’s Ryder Cup.

Outright Winner
Whilst the course has a distinctly European feel, how each player adapts to the conditions is sure to have a huge bearing on the outcome at the International Course this week:-
American Patrick Reed continues to produce consistent golf in every event he plays and the 2018 Masters champion will start as the hot favourite here in an event he will want to win.
Big-hitting Belgian Thomas Pieters picked up a tournament win in the Czech Republic last month and finished strongly at the European Open last time out in similar course conditions.
2017 Masters Champion Sergio Garcia has never competed at the KLM Open and will be keen to wow the home crowds and leave with a much needed trophy in the bag here.
Home favourite Joost Luiten is a two-time winner of the KLM Open and having missed out last season due to injury, he will be keen to pick up a third tournament win here.
The popular Englishman last won this event in 1999 and has also finished 3rd on three separate occasions at the KLM Open. He is in excellent form this season too.
1st Round Leader
Producing the goods over 72 holes is often the most difficult thing for any golfer to do therefore here are our first round leader picks:-
Englishman Matt Wallace sits 6th on the European Tour Money List and will be keen to go deep here in the Netherlands following a poor couple of weeks by his own high standards.
Impressive Belgian Thomas Detry has not missed a cut on the European Tour since June and his game looks tailor made for the course here at the International.
Young Englishman Sam Horsfield is one of the leading crop of British golfers heading the next generation on the European Tour and he has enjoyed three top 15 finishes from his last 4 starts.
Top Five Finish
With so many quality players assembled here at the International, getting into the winning enclosure could be tough but there are plenty of candidates to finish in the top 5 come Sunday:-
Two-time major winner Martin Kaymer has struggled for form in recent seasons but often plays his best stuff on the European Tour and could go well this week.
Frenchman Michael Lorenzo-Vera is finally coming of age on the European Tour and he arrives in good form after finishing 6th at the European Masters earlier this month.
Young Malaysian Gavin Green is yet to win on the European Tour but he is beginning to show consistency on the continent and could well enjoy playing at the KLM Open this week.
