Outright Winner
With so much at stake on the European Tour and the Ryder Cup on the horizon, this promises to be an excellent week of golf in Switzerland: –
Austrian Bernd Wiesberger is one of the most consistent performers on the European Tour and points and prize money here could propel him into Ryder Cup contention.
Few golfers on the European Tour strike the ball as cleanly as Thomas Detry and he will be hoping to get himself into the winners enclosure once again this weekend.
Englishman Sam Horsfield has been a stand out performer on the European Tour throughout the past couple of seasons and he a justified front runner in an open field here.
Thomas Pieters has been improving over the past few weeks and the Belgian is sure to be in contention in favourable playing conditions this week.
German two-time major winner Martin Kaymer hasn’t been able to hit the heights of previous years recently but his quality at this level is undoubted.
1st Round Leader
Producing the goods over 72 holes is often the most difficult thing for any golfer to do therefore here are our first round leader picks:-
Cult hero Rory Sabbatini arrives at this event fresh off the back of his Olympic silver medal and he could be one to look out for from the very start here at the Omega European Masters.
Frenchman Victor Perez hasn’t been able to reach the dizzy heights of last season as yet this term, but he is a supreme ball striker, and he could get off to a flyer here.
Former world number one Henrik Stenson is still one of the very best in the business on his day and he will be hoping to build on his top 5 at the Czech Masters last weekend.
Top Five Finish
With so many quality players assembled here in Switzerland, getting into the winning enclosure could be tough but there are plenty of candidates to finish in the top 5 come Sunday:-
European Tour leader Dean Burmester has enjoyed a stellar season so far and with confidence up, he looks to be a shoe in for a top 5 finish.
Former Open champion Francesco Molinari hasn’t been in the best of nick in the last couple of years, but he always seems to bring his A-game in the biggest events.
German Marcel Siem made plenty of running at the Czech Masters without getting over the line and he will be looking for another strong week here in Switzerland.
