Now one of the biggest events on the DP World Tour, the Scottish Open attracts a stellar field every year, all looking to get accustomed to links golf with the Open looming. Outright Winner
The Renaissance Club course in North Berwick always tests the best golfers in the world – regardless of the weather and there could be plenty of big names in contention come Sunday:-
Following his superb opening round on Thursday, Cameron Tringale is very much the man to catch at the 2022 Scottish Open.
Former US Open champion Gary Woodland hasn’t been in the best of form over the past few seasons, but he has started well here in North Berwick.
Recently crowned USPGA Championship champion Justin Thomas is always in the mix in the biggest events on tour and he sits just a handful of shots behind Tringale after the opening round.
In a similar vein, newly crowned US Open champion Matthew Fitzpatrick is a man in excellent form, and he is always a player to watch, especially in home conditions.
Despite being seven shots off the pace after the opening round in North Berwick, Jon Rahm can never be discarded and if he finds his best golf, he should come roaring back this weekend.
Top Ten Finish
With so many quality players assembled here at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick, getting into the winning enclosure could be tough but there are plenty of candidates to finish in the top 10 come Sunday:-
Young American Sam Burns is a man in the form of his life and his game looks suited to links golf. He shot an opening round -3 on Thursday and he looks well placed to press on for at least a top 10 finish this weekend.
South African Justin Harding is a proven performer on the DP World Tour and his excellent opening round of 5 under sees him just 4 shots behind Cameron Tringale, with 54 holes still to play.
Despite having won pretty much all there is to win in the game, Jordan Spieth still gives the impression that he could offer more in terms of top 10 finishes, and he could go well here, with links golf very much his bag.
Englishman Tyrrell Hatton has endured a dry spell of sorts, but he is only 7 shots off the pace following day 1 and a consistent weekend would certainly bring him into contention here.
