Spring is officially here as the best golfers in the world prepare to tackle Augusta National Golf Club for the US Masters title. The 2025 US Masters has a purse of $20 million, with the winner pocketing $3.6 million of the fund. More importantly, they will win the coveted Green Jacket and a place in Masters folklore.
The 2025 Masters will be held from April 10 to 13 at Augusta National in Augusta, Georgia. This will be the 89th edition of the Masters, and it is the first of the four men’s Majors competed for this and every other year.

Augusta National is a course steeped in history and tradition. It has hosted the Masters since 1934, two years after the course designed by Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts was opened for play.
The site of a former plant nursery, Augusta National’s holes are named after trees or shrubs that they have become associated with. The most famous part of the course is the second shot at the 11th, all of the 12th, and the first two shots of the 13th. This combination is known as Amen Corner, where the golf is its most exciting.

Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy are the bookies’ favorites to finish 72 holes in the Green Jacket. This is similar to how the betting has been for most of the last two years, with Scottie and Rory always in contention.
The interesting bet here might be on Xander Schauffele. Schauffle won the PGA Championship last May and then outlasted the field in miserable conditions at Royal Troon to take the British Open in June. Schauffele is halfway to a career Grand Slam, but he has only played three tournaments this year due to a rib injury.
2025 US Masters Leading Contenders
Schauffele might have two of the four Majors in the bag, but that is still one behind McIlroy’s completion of the career Slam. The Masters is the Northern Irishman’s White Whale, though his outstanding form has his fully on the radar to win in 2025.
McIlroy must avoid a slow start, which has plagued him in Majors since his last win at the 2014 PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club. All too often, McIlroy plays catchup after a rough opening round, but if he gets through that in spitting distance of the lead, watch out.
Scheffler is always going to be in contention. He also is a master of the Masters, with two wins out of the last three events. His form in 2025 has been patchy, but nobody would be shocked if the American was involved at the sharp end of the tournament.
Don’t discount Collin Morikawa, either. While he doesn’t have the wins under his belt in 2025, he has been a consistent threat at the top of the leaderboard. His time is coming. Could it be at Augusta?
