In a stunning display of fitness and strength, Stan Wawrinka beat world number one Novak Djokovic 6-7 (1-7) 6-4 7-5 6-3 at the US Open final on Sunday.

It was by no means an easy feat but the 31 year old won with his brilliant shots and tenacity. Ever the sportsman, Djokovic later said to the winner; “Congratulations, Stan, to your team as well. This has been absolutely deserved today. You were the more courageous player in the decisive moment and he deserves his title.”

This was Wawrinka’s third Grand Slam final, and third win. He is proving to be a force to be reckoned with.

In the womens US Open final, Angelique Kerber beat Karolina Pliskova 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 and has stolen the World Number 1 title from Serena Williams for the first time in 3 years.

Betting odds were in favour of Kerber (11/20) to win Pliskova (15/10) but Pliskova certainly held her ground in a nail biting final.
