Golf: Zozo Championship
Venue: Sherwood Golf Course, California
Dates: Thursday 22nd – Sunday 25th October 2020
Tournament Preview
The second edition of the Zozo Championship gets underway in California as the PGA tour looks to continue its recovery from the COVID 19 pandemic. The event was due to be played in Japan but is being held at the Sherwood Golf Course due to travel restrictions. The top 60 players in the FedEx Cup standings are all scheduled to take part along with players on the periphery on the PGA Tour. With the likes of Jon Rahm and Justin Thomas in the field, the prestige of the event almost speaks for itself and with over $8 million on the line too, there is plenty to play for in California this week.
Betting Preview
Outright Winner
The biggest names on the PGA Tour feature here in California and they will be keen to get their hands on some silverware:-
Spanish giant Jon Rahm continues to blaze a trail at the very top of the game on the PGA Tour and in the absence of Dustin Johnson, he is the highest ranked player here.
Justin Thomas looks to be in the form of his life as he arrives in California and goes into this week as one of the favourites to clinch another trophy.
Four-time major winner Rory McIlroy has lacked consistency once again in 2020 but with 18 PGA Tour career wins to his name, his reputation speaks for itself.
2019 runner up Hideki Matsuyama benefited from home support at the Zozo Championship last year and he looks well placed to challenge again in 2020.
Defending Zozo Championship winner Tiger Woods will be relishing the chance to get back out on the course and strut his stuff once more and he can never be written off.
1st Round Leader
Producing the goods over 72 holes is often the most difficult thing for any golfer to do therefore here are our first round leader picks:-
Few players are as prolific on the PGA Tour as Patrick Reed and he looks well placed to challenge again here in California.
Few men have enjoyed the level of results Tony Finau has this season and the American arrives in California as one of the men to watch on the PGA Tour.
Englishman Tommy Fleetwood is still awaiting a first PGA Tour win, but he is a consistent ball striker, and he could be one to watch from the off this week.
Top Ten Finish
With so many quality players assembled here in California, getting into the winning enclosure could be tough but there are plenty of candidates to finish in the top 10 come Sunday:-
Having won on the PGA Tour already this season and finishing in the top 10 last week at the CJ Cup, Tyrell Hatton is a man in form and could be in contention again this week.
Few men on the PGA Tour are as prolific as Webb Simpson and he should be in and around the winners enclosure come Sunday afternoon.
Australian Jason Day is a man looking for form, but the former world number one is more than capable of producing some magical golf when it matters.
