Touted as one of Gauteng’s most prestigious annual sporting events, the SANSUI Summer Cup will welcome some of the country’s best breeds to Johannesburg’s Turffontein Racecourse on Saturday, 25 November 2017. ‘The People’s Race’, as it’s known, has been running since 1887 during which time it has seen some of the country’s best race horses take the lead including two-time Durban July winner, El Picha; Triple Crown champion, Louis The King, and two-time winner, Master Sabina.

This year the SANSUI Summer Cup is set to get even hotter with a bonus of R1 million being put up for any horse able to win both the 2017 SANSUI Summer Cup and the 2018 Sun Met. The 20 horses running in the 2017 edition will be looking to take the R2 million prize money.

Horses to bet on Sansui Summer Cup 2017

Here are the top 5 Horses to bet on at the Sansui Summer Cup:

1. Brazuca

This Australian-bred horse made his first win this year at the R400 000 Gr2 Colorado King Stakes at Turfontein. Trained by up-and-comer, Johan Janse van Vuuren, Brazuka, Brazuca also just took top spot at the recent Turfontein Saturday topliner, so he definitely favours the course.

2. Hermoso Mundo

Trained by Weiho Marwing, Hermoso Mundo, son of Ideal World, was the first horse in South Africa to win the stayers’ ‘Gold Treble’ – the Gold Bowl at Turfontein over 3200m, the Gold Vase over 3000m at Greyville for the Durban July and the R1.25million eLan Gold Cup. This four-year-old gelding is definitely in fine form.

The son of Jet Master will be looking to take his third successive SANSUI Summer Cup this November, although he is now under the care of Joe Soma, not Geoff Woodruff as with the first two victories.
