The Formula One season continues this weekend, as the action moves to Russia. There has already been no shortage of talking points this season in the F1 and that only looks set to continue, but which driver will claim success at the Russian Grand Prix?
F1: Russian Grand Prix History
The will be the ninth time that Russia have held a Grand Prix, with the very first coming back in 1913. After hosting the race again in the following year, it would be a wait of 100 years before Russia would get to host an F1 race again. The decision to host the race in Russia was decided in 2010, and the first Russian Grand Prix took place four years later in Sochi. Like most races on the F1 calendar, Lewis Hamilton has an exceptional record in Sochi, as he has won four of the six recent editions of the race.
Mercedes have a perfect record in the Russian Grand Prix, as they have been the winning constructor in the race for all eight. Hamilton has won the last two Russian Grand Prix’s, while the other two drivers that have won the race are Nico Rosberg in 2016, and Valtteri Bottas in 2016. Hamilton’s record in Sochi ensures that he is the clear 0.40 favourite with BetXChange to win this year’s race.
Latest F1 Standings
Hamilton is the clear leader in the F1 standings at present, as he has won six of the nine races so far. The British driver has started on pole position in five of those wins, with the once exception being the Italian Grand Prix, which was eventually won by French driver Pierre Gasly. Hamilton currently has a 55 point lead over Mercedes teammate Bottas, with Max Verstappen a place further back in third. Bottas has won just one race this season, but his seven podium finishes exceeds the six recorded by Verstappen at this point.
A success in the Drivers’ Championship this year would see Hamilton tie the record with Michael Schumacher for the most F1 titles, and at this point that almost appears to look like a formality. Mercedes’ dominant record in this race could open the door for Bottas, who has won this race in the past, and he is priced at 3.30 with BetXChange. Hamilton also leads the way in terms of the Fastest Lap. He holds the record for the fastest lap recorded at the Russian Grand Prix last year, as he set a time of 1:35.761.
Russian Grand Prix Prediction
It looks incredibly hard to see past Hamilton adding another success to his collection for the season. A seventh win would mean a huge lead ahead of the final seven races of the season. A Bottas win would provide an opportunity for the Fin, but our pick is for Hamilton to continue his dominant season on the track.
Pick: Lewis Hamilton to win the Russian Grand Prix at 0.40 with BetXChange.
