Giannis Antetokounmpo won the NBA MVP award last night. The Greek international wrote history this year in his Milwaukee Bucks and became the new superstar in the best basketball league in the world.
Giannis was voted best in front of James Harden and Paul George. He averaged 27.7 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 5.9 assists, with 57.8% shooting from the field. His Bucks went to the Eastern Conference finals, after being the 1st at the end of the regular part of the season.
The Greek Freak as the fans call him is the first Buck since Kareem-Abdul Jabar who won this prestigious award, and also became the third youngest winner behind Derrick Rose and LeBron James.
Along with Steve Nash, he is the lowest pick from the draft who became an MVP.
Milwaukee Bucks got another honor last night. Their coach Mike Budenholzer was maned the best in the league. This is his second Coach of the Year award after 2015 when he worked in Atlanta. Budenholzer became only the seventh coach in the history of the NBA who led two franchises to a 60-win season.
Several other individuals got their awards last night.
Rudy Gobert was named the Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight year. Lou Williams also defended his Sixth Man of the Year award. The Clippers’ leader is by far the best sixth man in the league, and he fully deserved this honor. This is his third ever, which tied him with Jamal Crawford, who has the same number of trophies.
Pascal Siakam won the award for the Most Improved players, while Luka Doncic became the Rookie of the Year.
