Real Madrid will play Sevilla in Trondheim, Norway for the UEFA Cup on 9th August 2016. As the UEFA Champions League winners, Real Madrid face Sevilla in what will be the third consecutive all-Spanish UEFA Super Cup and the fourth overall.

UEFA Super Cup

We take a look at the history of each team and what their chances are of winning the UEFA Super Cup.

Sevilla
Sevilla have only ever been UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League Winners. Their record is 1 win and 3 losses:
2006: 3-0 v Barcelona (Monaco)
2007: 1-3 v AC Milan (Monaco)
2014: 0-2 v Real Madrid (Cardiff)
2015: 4-5 v Barcelona (aet, Tbilisi)

Sevilla showed they’re capable of going head to head with the Spanish champions as they ousted La Liga champions Barcelona, 2-1, and Real Madrid, 3-2, last season. Sevilla have been remarkable pre-season, winning their first five friendlies. However with Sevilla losing several of their key players, including Grzegorz Krychowiak, Ciro Immobile, Ever Banega, Jose Antonio Reyes and last season’s top scorer Kevin Gameiro, along with their dismal record against Real Madrid, the odds are not in their favour.

Current betting odds for Sevilla to win are 3/1

Real Madrid
Real Madrid have played three UEFA Super Cups at Stade Louis II in Monaco before beating Sevilla in 2014 in Cardiff. They have won 2 and lost 2.
1998: 0-1 v Chelsea (Monaco)
2000: 1-2 v Galatasaray (aet, Monaco)
2002: 3-1 v Feyenoord (Monaco)
2014: 2-0 v Sevilla (Cardiff)

Real Madrid claim a notable head-to-head record against Sevilla which doesn’t bode well for them. Real Madrid have won 30 from 45 meetings with three draws, losing 12 times. They have won 13 of the last 16 meetings against Sevilla, including four of the last five clashes. Sevilla did manage to beat Real last season in an exciting 3-2 defeat at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, but the Los Blancos claimed that back by winning 4-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu four months later.

It is unlikely that key players Gareth Bale, Tony Kroos and Pepe will play in the final and due to a knee injury star player Christiano Ronaldo will not be playing.

Current betting odds for Real Madrid to win are 17/20

Whichever team wins, it will be the 14th Spanish UEFA Super Cup title followed by Italy who have 9.
