The first of four annual Majors will get underway at Augusta National Golf Club from 11 to 14 April as the best of the best tee off in an effort to take The Masters title for 2019. The 83rd edition of The Masters Tournament already has bookies posting some interesting odds – here are some of the top contenders for this year’s big win.
5 Players to bet on at the US Master
- Dustin Johnson (PGA No. 1)
The 34-year-old American golfer impressed fans worldwide with his incredible performance at the recent WGC-Mexico Championship where he finished with a 21-under score. Johnson has 11 wins out of his last 54 starts, 37 top 10s, and he hasn’t finished a tournament outside the top 3 since 2016. This latest win makes him one of only five players in the past 50 years to achieve 20 victories before the age of 35. He has also won in every of his 12 seasons on tour. While his best Masters win was T-4 in 2016 –he missed 2017 because of a freak staircase fall – Johnson is looking like a good bet to take this year’s top spot.

- Justin Rose (PGA No.2)
Fresh off a win at this year’s Farmers Insurance Open, the 38-year-old English golfer has an impressive history at The Masters which looks set to continue. His consistent play has seen him fighting for The Masters title 13 times, with his worst finish a T-39 in his Master’s debut. He was runner-up in 2015 and 2017, has five top 10s and 11 top 25s so will be looking for the win. The reigning FedEx Cup Champion is also a former US Open Champion and Olympic gold medallist – and he will be looking to up his major’s titles to at least two this year.

- Rory McIlroy (PGA No.6)
The 29-year-old Northern Irishman is having the putting run of his career, with six consecutive top sixes in 2019 as well as winning the Players Championship at Sawgrass where he picked up a record $2.25 million cheque. With 15 PGA Tour victory and four major wins before the age of 30, McIlroy joins Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods in the history books. McIlroy is also the only player to have finished in the top 10 of each of the past five Masters and, while he has yet to take the title, this would complete his career grand slam so he’s definitely keen.

- Brooks Koepka (PGA No.3)
Just two years ago, this American golfer was without a major title and didn’t feature much when it came to betting odds. These days, the 28-year-old is the reigning PGA Tour Player of the Year having won three of the past six majors he has competed in. He finished T11 in the 2017 Masters, but then went on to win the US Open which he successfully defended in 2018 – following an injured wrist – as well as taking the PGA Championship. His recent intentional weight loss – 10kgs since November – has been cause for concern as it has affected his distance, but he insists he will be back on form.

- Phil Mickelson (PGA No.7)
The 48-year-old American golfer has won 44 PGA Tour events and five major championships – three of which were Masters – which makes him particularly well placed to take the 2019 title. His recent win at Pebble Beach and near miss at the Desert Classic show he is still in contention, however, his performance at the last two Masters has been below his usual top 10 finishes (1995 to 2015). Added to this, Mickelson has been linked to the ringleader of a massive college admissions scandal that has rocked the United States. Hopefully he’s able to keep a strong mental state on the course.
