Kevin Anderson beat Pablo Carreno Busta 4-6 7-5 6-3 6-4 in the semi-final at the Arthur Ashe Stadium on Friday night (Saturday morning SA time) to book his place in the US Open Final.
The 31 year old Anderson is the first South African to reach a Grand Slam final since Kevin Curren in 1984 at the Australian Open.
Anderson will now be looking to make history when he takes on number one seed Rafael Nadal in Sundays Final.
Anderson said earlier in the tournament that he would like to go deep at Flushing Meadows to inspire youngsters to take up tennis in South Africa, and his stirring effort from a set down will go a long way in achieving that goal.
At the start of the tournament Anderson had betting odds of 100/1 to win the tournament.
