ATP BNP Paribas Open – Indian Wells, California, USA.
Date(s): 10th – 20th March 2022
Draw Preview
With a new name at the top of the ATP World Tour rankings, attention now turns to Indian Wells for the biggest players on the circuit. Daniil Medvedev has overtaken the unvaccinated Novak Djokovic at the top of the tree in men’s tennis, a welcome distraction for the Russian against the backdrop of war emerging in his home country. Rafael Nadal has had the wood on Medvedev in recent weeks though and he also features in a packed draw here, with Indian Wells being one of the most notorious events on the tennis and sporting calendar worldwide.
ATP BNP Paribas Open Outright Betting
With some of the best players in the world in action, it promises to be a week of high-quality tennis in Indian Wells.
Here are some our tips for the title in California this week:
Rafael Nadal – 5/2 – Australian Open champion and the winner of a record-breaking 21 Grand Slam titles, Rafael Nadal starts as the hot favourite in Indian Wells this week. The Majorcan has been playing some majestic tennis of late, defying his ageing body to produce some breath taking stuff and in the absence of Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer on the ATP Tour at the moment, he is box office in every event he plays.
Daniil Medvedev – 3/1 – Newly crowned world number one Daniil Medvedev looks as if he is ready to dine at tennis’s top table for the foreseeable future. With an all-court game, made for conditions here in Indian Wells, Medvedev will take some stopping from the top of the draw. He will also be keen to let his tennis do the talking, following a tough couple of weeks back in his native country and when he has extra motivation, Medvedev tends to bring his A game.
Alexander Zverev – 6/1 – German Alexander Zverev came under serious scrutiny for his ill-tempered outburst in Mexico last time out and he will be keen to get back on court, doing what he does best here. Tournament wins have been hard to come by over the past couple of seasons for Zverev, but he is a hugely talented player, who will enjoy conditions here in Indian Wells.
Stefanos Tsitsipas – 9/1 – Greek superstar Stefanos Tsitsipas is one of the household names on the ATP Tour these days and he draws in the crowds wherever he goes. Whilst performances are generally consistent across most surfaces, his results don’t always match up to his potential but if he gets going here, he could be very difficult to stop in California this week.
Andrey Rublev – 14/1 – Russian Andrey Rublev has been one of the most consistent performers on the ATP Tour in recent seasons and has broken into the top 10 in the world as a result. He is a former US Open semi-finalist and with hard courts being his favoured surface, he could sneak under the radar somewhat here.
Jannik Sinner – 22/1 – Young Italian Jannik Sinner is rapidly emerging as one of the brightest prospects on the ATP Tour and his run to the last 8 of the Australian Open back in January was justification of that. With a game made for all surfaces, Sinner should adapt well to conditions here at Indian Wells and he looks good value to go deep this week.
