Tournament Preview

The first WGC event since the return to action following the enforced COVID 19 break kicks off with the WGC FedEx St Jude Invitational in Memphis. The event has been on the tour since 1958 in various forms and has recently become part of the WGC FedEx series. As part of the PGA Tour and with over $6.6 million in the prize pot, few events hold the prestige of the St Jude. Previous winners include Dustin Johnson, David Toms and Fred Couples – testament to the history and quality of the event.

Outright Winner

All of the biggest names in world golf are in action here in Memphis, which should set up an excellent week of golf:

Jon Rahm – 11.00

Current world number 1 Jon Rahm won the Memorial Tournament last time out and looks to be in the form of his life as he heads to Memphis for this one.

Justin Thomas – 11.00

Justin Thomas has been another man in fine form since the season restart on the PGA Tour and he could sneak under the radar here in Memphis.

Rory McIlroy – 12.00

Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy hasn’t been in the best of form since the COVID 19 outbreak, but he has the ability to turn it on at any time – especially in the biggest events.

Webb Simpson – 22.00

World number 5 Webb Simpson continues to mix it with the big boys and his consistency will hold him in good stead in a strong field here in Memphis.

Dustin Johnson – 25.00

Three-time winner of this event Dustin Johnson won the Travellers Championship last month and despite a few injury concerns, should go very well in familiar surrounds here.

1st Round Leader

With players still trying to find momentum within their respective seasons, getting off to a fast start could be hugely important here in Memphis:

Tony Finau – 25.00

With back to back top 10 finishes, Tony Finau looks in superb form and his fast starts have become commonplace on the PGA Tour of late.

Patrick Cantlay – 30.00

American Patrick Cantlay hasn’t missed a cut since the restart, and he has a habit of getting off to a flyer in the big events.

Daniel Berger – 33.00

Daniel Berger has a win and a 3rd place finish from his 3 starts since the season recommencing and he will be very keen to stamp his authority from the off here in Memphis.

Top 10 Finish

With so many good players assembled here in Memphis, getting into the winning enclosure could be tough but there are plenty of candidates to finish in the top 10 come Sunday:

Bryson DeChambeau – 1.20

American Bryson DeChambeau has been the man to beat since the resumption of the PGA Tour and he could take some stopping in favourable conditions here in Memphis.

Collin Morikawa – 2.50

Workday Open champion Collin Morikawa has been a revelation since bursting onto the PGA Tour last season and he will be in contention come Sunday provided he plays his best golf.

Patrick Reed – 3.50

Former Masters Champion Patrick Reed tends to play his very best golf in the biggest events, and he will enjoy the conditions at TPC Southwind this week.
