One of the most illustrious races of the Formula 1 season takes place this weekend, as the bright lights of the motorsport world head to the Circuit de Monaco. The prestigious race is the fifth leg of the F1 season this term, but will Lewis Hamilton be able to claim a fourth win of the season?

Event Details & Previous Winners

The Monaco Grand Prix forms part of the Triple Crown of Motorsport, and has been one of the most prestigious races of the F1 season throughout its history. It has been an integral throughout the modern history of the sport, and twice played host as the leg of the European Grand Prix. Some of the most iconic drivers have won this race on numerous occasions, including Ayrton Senna, who holds the record for the most wins.

The Brazilian won this famous race on six occasions during his career, which included a spell between 1989 and 1993 where he won the race in every season. Graham Hill and Michael Schumacher both won the Monaco Grand Prix on five occasions, while Alain Prost won the race on four occasions. Lewis Hamilton will be looking to join Prost in winning the race on four occasions this year, as he has currently recorded three wins. His most recent win came in 2019. Other current drivers to have recorded repeat victories include Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vetter, who have both won on two occasions.

Monaco Grand Prix Contenders

It will be a welcome sight for F1 fans this weekend, as the action returns to the famous Monaco circuit after being missing from the calendar last year due to the effects of COVID-19. Hamilton remains the defending champion, as the British driver has won two of the previous four Monaco Grand Prix’s. The reigning World Champion is looking to become the standalone record holder this season, and he has started the season in scintillating form.

Hamilton is currently the clear 1.00 favourite in the betting with BetXChange to win the race this weekend. He is currently 14 points ahead of second place in the Drivers’ Championship, as he has won three of the four races so far this season. He started the season by winning the Bahrain Grand Prix, before his dominance has continued in Europe. Hamilton started on pole and recorded the fastest lap in the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, but could only finish.

However, he has responded to that setback like a true champion by winning the Portuguese Grand Prix and Spanish Grand Prix. Max Verstappen is the only other driver to have won a Grand Prix this season, as he bested Hamilton in the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. However, he has had to settle for second in the last two. Valtteri Bottas is also in the mix, but he has finished third in three of the four races this season.

Lando Norris is currently fourth in the Drivers’ Championship, as he has finished in the top ten in all races so far this season. However, it’s hard to look past his compatriot this weekend, as Hamilton claims another victory.

Pick: Lewis Hamilton at 1.00 with BetXChange.
