Cricket World Cup: Australia vs India
Venue: The Oval, London
Date: Sunday 9th June 2019
Australia survived (just about) their trial by fire against the West Indies at Trent Bridge last time out to sit at a perfect two wins out of two games in the 2019 Cricket World Cup. Their 15 run victory over the pace attack was far more impressive than their seven-wicket domination of Afghanistan in their opening match.
India are also undefeated at this point in the competition though they have only played the one game so far due to a quirk in the scheduling. That game was a six-wicket domination of a South Africa side that is 0-3 at the World Cup and it shows that the Indians are in excellent form for this intriguing clash.
It is a case of moving from one bowling extreme to the other for Australia at The Oval. In their last game against the West Indies they were battered by short-pitched pace bowling that did, for a while at least, throw them off of their game.
Now they get to face a more familiar opponent, albeit one that they have had trouble with at times in the past. The venue will play a big role here too as in three matches at The Oval so far this World Cup spinners have combined to take 15 wickets.
This is the best spin attack in the tournament with Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal working together to cause problems. Australia might be needing another batsman in their lineup to get hot out of nowhere, just like Nathan Coulter-Nile did when he slogged 92 off of 60 balls against the Windies.

India Top Bowler: Kuldeep Yadav – 4.00
Yadav is going to have a huge role in this game as he tries to stand up against the middle of the order that was so good for Australia against the West Indies. Yadav was 1/46 in the game against South Africa, but we think he will be much better here.
Australia Top Batsman: David Warner – 2.75
Coulter-Nile was so out of nowhere in the last match that he isn’t even listed as one of the top choices for the top Aussie batsman with BetXChange. We are going to go back to the well with Warner who struggled when he was out for just three against the West Indies but who has proven to be deadly against spin during his career.
Australia Top Bowler: Mitchell Starc 2.75
Starc is in great form and he was simply devastating against the West Indies. he was 5/46 in his 10 overs, tearing through the opposition batsmen. We suggest riding the hot hand here and going with Starc to be the best Aussie bowler on show again.
There is no reason to expect anything other than a close game here. The Oval is known as being a bit of a batting pitch, but it is very important to note how well spin bowling has performed there so far this World Cup. With that in mind, and by noting that the Indian team seems a little more balanced for this particular wicket, take India to win.
India at 0.80 is the pick here.
